Hey foodies,
Where do you normally go for an enjoyable weekend? For me, I go to various markets to browse over things and eat lots of good local food. With so many markets in the bustling capital, there must be something that would suit your needs.
Late last year, Dairy Road Markets re-opened its doors after a long closure during the COVID lockdown. Opened in December 2020, this market was a joint force of three of the Canberra’s big event joints, The Forage, Cellar Door and the Suitcase Rummage.

As the name suggests, Dairy Road Markets is located 1 Dairy Road Fyshwick, Canberra’s new and developing neighborhood region. The market is held every first Sunday of the month between 12 -5 pm. Market-goers will pay $12 entrance fee and will get a free wine glass for free tasting of over eight local wineries and distilleries.

As Canberra’s new developing area, the Dairy Road precinct is much a cosy and relaxing place. The market itself is a good Sunday spot to just relax, visiting many of the precinct’s small galleries for some artistic objects while enjoying good food and wine.
The food offering at the market is broad, ranging from local artisan bread to Japanese ramen and pub fare. There are sitting places across the entire site. If you plan to come to the market, I suggest you don’t eat beforehand and take advantage of the food offering here – some good yummy choices. What about me? Unfortunately I had lunch in the city on that day before rocking up at the market so was not able to fit anything in, but I did enjoy their wine tasting offering.

Market-goers can also enjoy Canberra’s very own Capital Brewing Co.’s Taproom at the market and see their big beer brewing facilities. I love their mixed case to try a bit of everything. What’s your favourite?
The taproom can be pre-booked if you are going to the market.

What’s more at the market? Wines, lots of wines and some good gin. There are eight wineries at the market including some famous drops in the Canberra wine region, such as the Lake George Winery. The entry cost to the market includes a wine glass for tasting – what a brilliant idea to pair wine and market!
So foodies, if you are after a relaxing afternoon with good local foods and wines, try this market out @ the Dairy Road, Canberra!
Until the next post, have a lovely week.
James
