Gorgeous Festival McLaren Vale – The Food

Folks, summer is almost here! The weather’s warming up with showers and so on, but in 3 wks, SA’s boutique music, food and wine festival will be on at our pictureous McLaren Vale visitor center.

With the festival fast approaching, I’d like to talk about the food activation at this year’s festival. For general info regarding the event, please visit their website  OR Eating Adelaide to see what Alex said about it.

It is a very long story about the food etc for the festival, but I’ve put some highlights that you might want to check out.

1. Bradd Johns’ workshop. Bradd is one of the most talented chef in Adelaide and catered for the Queen when he was in the UK. Bradd is now the head chef of  Crowne Plaza Adelaide’s Red Salt Restaurant and Bar.

2. Interesting and fascinating festival menu (see below). People can expect to taste some good dishes from several fantastic and famous restaurants from McLaren Vale, including D’Arrys Verandah Restaurant, The Elbow Room, Fino (for their popular chorizo), Ampika’s Kitchen as well as Blessed Cheese. Dishes range from $5 to $25.

3. Lots of great wines. Yum! I am thirsty LOL

I’ll be at the festival from mid day on 24/11 and I am looking forward to some of the dishes in the menu. Oh, I also hope to see some of my readers and facebook fans there! Enjoy~

Musicians won’t be the only stars of this year’s Gorgeous Festival as local produce takes centre stage on the 24th November. From a masterclass with one of Adelaide’s tops chefs, to a head to head challenge with local produce and a festival menu that rivals a five star restaurant, this year’s Gorgeous Festival will delight the taste buds of foodies and epicures.

Chef Bradd Johns from the Crowne Plaza Adelaide’s Red Salt Restaurant and Bar has previously catered for the Queen and Prince Charles and has worked in some of London’s most prestigious eateries. Bradd Johns has a passion for creating uniquely South Australian cuisine, which ties in with the festival’s desire to celebrate and showcase local offerings. Bradd says “We have wonderful vineyards, fantastic food regions and so many people in South Australia who are passionate about food and wine.” Bradd will present a masterclass at the festival, cooking one of his signature dishes using local Fleurieu produce.

Later in the day, Johns will then go head to head with The Elbow Room’s chef, Nigel Rich, in a cooking showdown like no other. Both chefs will be provided with a Gorgeous mystery box supplied by stalls from the well-known Willunga Farmers Market and will create a dish in front of festivalgoers.

Watching these creations unfold before your eyes is bound to send your taste buds into a frenzy and lead you straight to the Festival’s food stalls. A festival menu like you’ve never seen has been created especially for the 2012 festival that will leave you wanting to sample from each of the six stalls on the day. D’Arrys Verandah will be serving up lobster medallion with blue swimmer crab and prawn ravioli in lobster bisque. While The Elbow Room has three delicious menu options to select from including Argentinean char-grilled beef short ribs and freshly shucked KI oysters. Of their four dishes The Currant Shed will be serving up two will be vegetarian options, Tostadas with salsa and a festival favourite with a twist, char-grilled corn on the cob with chipotle and Parmesan. Fino’s chorizo sausage, pickled onion and romesco Panini will go down nicely with a glass or red. And Ampika’s kitchen will be dishing up a Thai beef salad drizzled with a Zesty lemongrass dressing and a delicious vegetarian tofu Pad Thai.

For cheese connoisseurs, Blessed Cheese will have on offer a gourmet cheese platter that will include a selection of fine local and imported farmhouse and artisan cheeses and gourmet produce.

Celebrating delicious local produce and restaurants, Gorgeous Festival returns to the McLaren Vale Visitor Information Center & Grounds on Main Road, McLaren Vale on the 24th November 2012.
